RESUMEN

SCOPE: In cases where breast milk is unavailable or inadequate, hydrolyzed infant formula is recommended as the primary alternative. The aim of this study is to assess and compare the allergenicity of two partially hydrolyzed whey-based formulas (PHF-Ws) using serum samples from patients with cow's milk allergy (CMA). METHODS AND RESULTS: LC-MS/MS technology is used to investigate the peptide distribution in both samples. The immunoreactivity of two PHF-Ws in 27 serum samples from 50 Chinese infants (02 years) with CMA is analyzed. The results demonstrate that even with a similar a degree of hydrolysis (DH), primary protein sources, peptides with molecular weights <5 kDa, and differences in the number of residual allergenic epitopes in the hydrolyzed peptide segments can lead to varying immune responses. CONCLUSION: The two PHF-Ws have notably high intolerance rates, exceeding 10% among infants with CMA. Therefore, suggesting that PHF-Ws may not be suitable for infants and children with CMA in China.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Infection is a significant risk factor that impacts for perioperative morbidity and mortality in liver transplantation (LTx) patients and is difficult to evaluate quantitatively in the early posttransplantation period. Thus, a biomarker to assess the risk of infection and the prognosis of the recipient is highly desirable. METHODS: A total of 128 consecutive patients with end-stage liver diseases undergoing LTx between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, were screened retrospectively. Graft preservation fluid and blood samples were collected for culture, and other perioperative laboratory examination results were recorded, for assessment of infection status. RESULTS: After a follow-up period of 30 days, the survival rate among the 128 LTx recipients was 94.5%. Multivariable regression analysis showed that the logarithmically transformed neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (HR = 3.548, 95% CI: ; p = .041) on post-LTx day 1 and graft preservation fluid culture positivity (HR = 12.032, 95% CI: ; p = .006) were independent predictive factors for early prognosis after LTx. CONCLUSIONS: Positive graft preservation fluid culture and the logarithmically transformed NLR on post-LTx day 1 were independent predictive factors for early prognosis after LTx. The logarithmically transformed NLR could provide an earlier indication than culture results in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To evaluate the response and safety of an inactivated vaccine (Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd., Beijing, China) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in liver transplant (LTx) recipients from China. Patients and Methods: Thirty-five recipients post LTx from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine who received inactivated vaccine from June to October 2021 were screened. Information regarding vaccine side effects and clinical data were collected. Results: Thirty-five LTx recipients were enrolled, with a mean age of 46 years, and most patients were male (30, 85.71%). All the participants had a negative history of COVID-19 infection. Predictors for negative response in the recipients were interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) induction during LTx, shorter time post LTx and application of a derivative from mycophenolate acid (MPA). No serious adverse events were observed during the progress of vaccination or after the vaccination. Conclusion: LTx recipients have a substantially partial immunological response to the inactivated vaccine for COVID-19. IL-2R induction during LTx, a shorter time post LTx and the application of a derivative from MPA seem to be predictors for a negative serological immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody response in recipients. The findings require booster vaccination in these LTx recipients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare and highly lethal histological subtype of HCC, with completely unknown genetic etiology and therapeutic targets. METHODS: We included 16 patients with sarcomatoid HCC receiving radical resection among 6731 cases of pathological confirmed HCC in year 2008 to 2018 in our hospital. We compared the clinical features, prognosis and cancer genome between 15 sarcomatoid HCC and propensity score-matched 75 non-sarcomatoid HCC patients. The other concurrent case was analyzed using phylogenetic tree to assess the tumor heterogeneity and evolution. RESULTS: Sarcomatoid HCC group showed larger tumor size, more advanced differentiation grade, lower tumor free survival (p = 0.038) and overall survival (p = 0.001), and sarcomatoid type was an independent risk factor for patient death. Integrating sarcomatoid subtype into AJCC staging could increase the diagnostic curve in predicting patient survival. The cancer genome spectrum showed sarcomatoid HCC group had significant higher mutation rates in CDKN2A, EPHA5, FANCM and MAP3K1. Mutations in CDKN2A significantly reduced tumor-free and overall survival in sarcomatoid HCC patients. Moreover, 46.6% sarcomatoid HCC patients had druggable mutations in cell cycle pathway genes, which were targeted by Abemaciclib, et al. We also found sarcomatoid and non-sarcomatoid lesions might originate from a common progenitor but progress differently. CONCLUSION: Our cancer genome analysis showed a specific genomic profile of sarcomatoid HCC, which were characterized by a high mutation rate in cell cycle genes particularly CDKN2A. The results indicate CDK4/6 inhibitors including abemaciclib, ribociclib and palbociclib as potential therapeutic targets and may help for therapeutic decision making.

RESUMEN

Background: Methylation plays a significant role in the etiology and pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of the present study is to identify aberrantly methylated-diferentially expressed genes (DEGs) and dysregulated pathways associated with the development of HCC through integrated analysis of gene expression and methylation microarray. Method: Aberrantly methylated-DEGs were identified from gene expression microarrays (GSE62232, GSE74656) and gene methylation microarrays (GSE44909, GSE57958). Functional enrichment and pathway enrichment analyses were performed through the database of DAVID. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was established by STRING and visualized in Cytoscape. Subsequently, overall survival (OS) analysis of hub genes was performed by OncoLnc. Finally, we validated the expression level of CDCA5 by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting, and performed Immunohistochemical experiments utilizing a tissue microarray. Cell growth assay and flow cytometry were behaved to explore the function of CDCA5. Results: Aberrantly methylated-DEGs were enriched in biological process, molecular function, cellular component and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway. Among them, cell cycle was enriched most frequently, and some terms associated with cancer were enriched, such as p53 signaling pathway, pathways in cancers, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and AMPK signaling pathway. After survival analysis and validation in TCGA database including methylation and gene expression status, 12 hub genes were identified. Furthermore, the expression level of new gene CDCA5 was validated in HCC cell lines and hepatic normal cell lines through qRT-PCR and western blotting. In additional, immunohistochemistry experiments revealed higher CDCA5 protein expression from HCC tumor tissues compared with paracancer tissues by tissue microarray. Finally, through loss of function, we demonstrated that CDCA5 promoted proliferation by regulating the cell cycle. Conclusions: In summary, the present study implied possible aberrantly methylated-differentially expressed genes and dysregulated pathways in HCC by bioinformatics analysis and experiments, which could be helpful in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of HCC. Hub genes including CDC20, AURKB, BIRC5, RRM2, MCM2, PTTG1, CDKN2A, NEK2, CENPF, RACGAP1, GNA14 and especially the new gene CDCA5 may serve as biomarkers for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of HCC.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Accumulation of free fatty acids (FFAs) in hepatocytes induces lipotoxicity, leading to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms by which FFA contributes to the pathogenesis of NAFLD via the regulation of 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (MPST), a key enzyme that regulates endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) biosynthesis. DESIGN: Hepatic MPST expression was evaluated in mice and patients with NAFLD. A variety of molecular approaches were used to study the effects of MPST regulation on hepatic steatosis in vivo and in vitro. RESULTS: In vitro treatment of hepatocytes with FFAs upregulated MPST expression, which was partially dependent on NF-κB/p65. Hepatic MPST expression was markedly increased in high fat diet (HFD)-fed mice and patients with NAFLD. Partial knockdown of MPST via adenovirus delivery of MPST short hairpin RNA or heterozygous deletion of the Mpst gene significantly ameliorated hepatic steatosis in HFD-fed mice. Consistently, inhibition of MPST also reduced FFA-induced fat accumulation in L02 cells. Intriguingly, inhibition of MPST significantly enhanced rather than decreased H2S production, whereas MPST overexpression markedly inhibited H2S production. Co-immunoprecipitation experiments showed that MPST directly interacted with and negatively regulated cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE), a major source of H2S production in the liver. Mechanistically, MPST promoted steatosis via inhibition of CSE/H2S and subsequent upregulation of the sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c pathway, C-Jun N-terminal kinase phosphorylation and hepatic oxidative stress. CONCLUSIONS: FFAs upregulate hepatic expression of MPST and subsequently inhibit the CSE/H2S pathway, leading to NAFLD. MPST may be a potential therapeutic target for NAFLD.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Liver transplantation is an optimal radical therapy for selected patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. The stringent organ allocation system driven by the Milan criteria has been challenged by alternative sets of expanded criteria. Careful analysis is needed to prove that the Milan criteria can be expanded safely and effectively. DESIGN: This study collectively reviewed 6012 patients of hepatocellular carcinoma from the China Liver Transplant Registry. Expanded criteria were evaluated to characterise an optimised expansion with acceptable outcomes beyond the Milan criteria. RESULTS: Compared with the Milan criteria, Valencia, University of California, San Francisco, University Clinic of Navarra and Hangzhou criteria provided an expansion of 12.4%, 16.3%, 19.6%, and 51.5%, respectively. The post-transplant survivals of patients fulfilling the expanded criteria were comparable to that of the Milan criteria. The analysis of net reclassification improvement and area under the receiver operating characteristic curves showed an excellent efficiency in recurrence prediction for the expanded criteria compared with the Milan criteria. In patients exceeding Milan but fulfilling the Hangzhou criteria (N=1352), α-fetoprotein (AFP) >100 ng/mL and tumour burden>8 cm were the only two independent prognostic factors (p<0.001). Accordingly, the Hangzhou criteria were stratified as type A (tumour burden ≤8 cm, or tumour burden >8 cm but AFP≤100 ng/mL) and type B (tumour burden >8 cm but AFP between 100 and 400 ng/mL). Type A showed significantly higher 5-year tumour-free survival rates compared with type B (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The Milan criteria can be expanded safely and effectively. The prognostic stratification system based on the Hangzhou criteria serves as a hierarchy of transplant candidates for hepatocellular carcinoma.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Crigler-Najjar syndrome type I (CNS I) is a very rare autosomal recessive inherited disease that liver transplantation can properly deal with. METHODS: We present one case of an 18-month-old child with CNS I diagnosed by clinical findings and genetic detecting. LTx was performed 5 days after kernicterus broke out and neurological symptoms were successfully reversed. RESULT: Magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed encouraging results that brain pathology had a trend to return to normal in 1-year follow-up, combined with electroencephalogram and motor development estimate studies. CONCLUSIONS: Liver transplantation can cure CNS I with reversible neurological symptoms to some extent in time. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy may be a future option of predicting brain conditions and selecting suitable patients with CNS I for transplantation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) recurrence is a major risk factor affecting the long-term survival of recipients for liver transplantation (LTx). Therefore, a model that can assess this risk before transplantation is highly desirable. METHODS: One hundred and eighty-five consecutive liver transplant recipients because of HBV-related end-stage liver diseases were selected. Their perioperative laboratory examination results, treatment protocol and the status of HBV recurrence were the primary parameters used to assess their risk of post-transplant HBV recurrence. A model that may be generally used to evaluate the risk of post-transplant HBV recurrence was thus established. A cohort for further validation and a cross-validation were designed. RESULTS: After a follow-up time of 26.0 ± 10.8 months, the overall HBV recurrence rate was 8.6%. The 1-, 2- and 3-year cumulative survival rates were 98.5, 89.2 and 83.4% respectively. By correlation with the pretransplant presence of hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC), serum HBV DNA level and status of antiviral treatment (AVT), the risk assessment model can be summarized using the following equation: RISK=-4.378 + 1.493 × HCC + 1.286 × DNA - 2.426 × AVT. The HBV recurrence rate and survival were found to be significantly different between the recipients with risk scores ≤-2.8 and >-2.8. The model was well validated in this work. CONCLUSIONS: Pretransplant HBV DNA level, presence of HCC, AVT status and post-transplant viral mutation were identified as the major risk factors associated with HBV recurrence after LTx. A novel model incorporating these factors could effectively evaluate the risk of post-transplant HBV recurrence before transplantation.

RESUMEN

The detection of the quality of honey and the differentiation of adulteration are very important for quality and safety assurance. Traditionally used chemical methods were expensive and complicated, therefore they are not suitable for the requirement of wide-scale detection. In the past decade, the detection technology of honey developed with a trend of fast and high throughput detection. Spectroscopy has the fast and non-contact characteristic, and was widely used in petrifaction. This technology also has the potential for application in honey analysis. In the present study, the progress in quantitative and qualitative analysis of honey by near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) and mid infrared spectroscopy (MIR) is reviewed. The application of this two spectroscopy methods to honey detection refers to several aspects, such as quality control analysis, determination of botanical origin, determination of geographical origin and detection of adulteration. The detailed information of the detection of honey by NIR and MIR spectroscopy was analyzed, containing detection principle, technology path, accuracy, influence factors, and the development trend.

RESUMEN

In the present study, the fruit flesh firmness of apple was analyzed by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy using an FT-NIR spectrometer. The sensitive spectral regions that provide the lowest prediction error were analyzed by different well-known variable selection methods, including dynamic backward interval partial least-squares (dynamic biPLS), sequential application of backward interval partial least-squares and genetic algorithm(dynamic biPLS & GA-PLS), and iterative genetic algorithm partial least-squares (iterative GA-PLS). Iterative GA-PLS, dynamic biPLS & GA-PLS led to a distinct reduction in the number of spectral data points with better predictive quality. Furthermore, the majority of selected wavelengths were content with the characteristic of the sorption bands of fruit flesh firmness. Pectin constituents, complex non-starch polysaccharides, which are related to texture change in apple, play an important role in their harvest maturity, ripening and storage. Comparing NIR characteristic wavelengths of apple flesh firmness and typical absorption bands for pectin, it was found that characteristic wavelengths of apple flesh firmness were consistent with the pectins relevant spectral regions. Therefore, the NIR characteristic wavelengths of apple firmness based on GA and iPLS reflected the chemical component of apple and the results were reasonable.

RESUMEN

Pupil examination has been used as a basic measure in critically ill patients and has great importance for the prognosis and management of disease. An automated pupillometer is a computer-based infrared digital video system by which the accuracy and precision of the pupil examination are markedly improved. We conducted an observational study of pupil assessment with automated pupillometry in clinical liver transplantation settings, including pretransplant evaluations and posttransplant surveillance. Our results showed that unconscious patients (grade 4 hepatic encephalopathy) had a prolonged latency phase (left side: 283 +/- 80 milliseconds; right side: 295 +/- 96 milliseconds) and a reduced pupillary constrictive ratio (left direct response: 0.23 +/- 0.10; left indirect response: 0.21 +/- 0.07; right direct response: 0.20 +/- 0.08; right indirect response: 0.21 +/- 0.08) in comparison with normal and conscious patients. After liver transplantation, the recovery of pupillography in these patients was slower than that in conscious patients. However, the surviving recipients without major complications all had a gradual recovery of pupillary responses, which occurred on the first or second posttransplant day. We also reported 4 cases of futile LT in the absence of pretransplant pupillary responses and other pupillary abnormalities revealed by automated pupillometry in our study. In conclusion, patients with grade 4 hepatic encephalopathy had a sluggish pupil response and a delayed recovery pattern after LT. An automated pupillometer is potentially a supplementary device for pretransplant screening and posttransplant monitoring in patients undergoing LT, but further prospective studies are required.

RESUMEN

In the present work, "Fuji" apples from Shandong Yantai were used to take the diffuse reflection spectra by FT-NIR PLS components (i.e., factors) were computed by nonlinear iterative partial least squares (NIPALS) and the number of latent factors (LV) was optimized by a leave-one-out cross-validation procedure on the calibration set. On the basis of partial least square (PLS) regression, the models for apples' firmness before and after peeling were compared. In order to eliminate the effect of apple peel on prediction, spectral pretreatments such as multiplicative scatter correction (MSC), derivative, direct orthogonal signal correction (DOSC) and wavelengths selection based on genetic algorithms (GA) were used. Finally, the results of different spectral treatments were compared. In conclusion, the RSDp of models for apples before and after peeling was 16.71% and 12.36%, respectively, suggesting that the apple peel played a negative role in constructing good predictive models. Moreover, the traditional spectral pretreatments (such as MSC, derivative) can hardly resolve the problem. In this research, GA-DOSC played an important role in reducing the interference of apple peel. It not only reduced the wavelength variables from 1480 to 36, but also reduced the latent variables from 5 to 1. The correlation coefficient (r) was improved from 0.753 to 0.805, and the RMSECV and RMESP were reduced from 1.019 kgf x cm(-2) and 1.197 kgf x cm(-2) to 0.919 kgf x cm(-2) and 0.924 kgf x cm(-2), respectively. Especially, the RSDp was decreased remarkably from 16.71% to 12.89%. The performance of the model after GA-DOSC treatment was similar to the model using spectra of apple flesh (12.36%). It was concluded that the prediction precision based on GA-DOSC satisfied the requirement of NIR non-destruction determination of apples firmness.

RESUMEN

The potential of near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) as a nondestructive method for determining the principle components of honeys was studied for 153 unifloral honeys and multifloral honey samples. Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR), CCD near-infrared spectroscopy and PDA near-infrared spectroscopy were evaluated to quantitatively determine water content, fructose content and glucose content in honey. On the basis of partial-least square (PLS) regression, the models of honey were compared. The best calibration model gives the correlation coefficients of 0.978 5, 0.931 1 and 0.90 7 for water, fructose and glucose, respectively, with the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 0.410 8(%), 1.914 48(%) and 2.531 9(%) respectively. The results demonstrated that near-infrared spectrometry is a valuable, rapid and nondestructive tool for the quantitative analysis of the principle components in honey.

RESUMEN

In the present study, 22 certified milk samples without melamine were collected, then 50 adulterated milk samples with added different content of melamine (0.1-1 500 mg x kg(-1)) were prepared. The near-infrared (NIR) spectra of these milk samples were measured. The possibility of using NIR spectra to detect melamine in milk was studied. Partial least square regression (PLSR) was applied to construct the calibration model between NIR spectra and the content of melamine. The results showed that NIR spectroscopy can not accurately predict the content of melamine because of its poor detection limit. However, the combination of NIR spectra and partial least square-discriminate analysis (PLS-DA) was applied to differentiate the certified milk samples and the adulterated milk sample. The classification accuracy was 100%. Therefore, NIR spectra could be used to preliminarily detect whether the milk was adulterated with melamine. As a complementary detecting method to the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), NIR spectra could improve the detecting efficiency of milk

RESUMEN

In the present study, improved laser-induced light backscattering imaging was studied regarding its potential for analyzing apple SSC and fruit flesh firmness. Images of the diffuse reflection of light on the fruit surface were obtained from Fuji apples using laser diodes emitting at five wavelength bands (680, 780, 880, 940 and 980 nm). Image processing algorithms were tested to correct for dissimilar equator and shape of fruit, and partial least squares (PLS) regression analysis was applied to calibrate on the fruit quality parameter. In comparison to the calibration based on corrected frequency with the models built by raw data, the former improved r from 0. 78 to 0.80 and from 0.87 to 0.89 for predicting SSC and firmness, respectively. Comparing models based on mean value of intensities with results obtained by frequency of intensities, the latter gave higher performance for predicting Fuji SSC and firmness. Comparing calibration for predicting SSC based on the corrected frequency of intensities and the results obtained from raw data set, the former improved root mean of standard error of prediction (RMSEP) from 1.28 degrees to 0.84 degrees Brix. On the other hand, in comparison to models for analyzing flesh firmness built by means of corrected frequency of intensities with the calibrations based on raw data, the former gave the improvement in RMSEP from 8.23 to 6.17 N x cm(-2).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To evaluate patient survival with combined liver-kidney transplantation (CLKT) and to identify factors of death in these patients. METHODOLOGY: Among 554 cases of liver transplantations (LTs) performed between January 1999 and October 2006, there were 19 cases (3.43%) of CLKT recipients. To compare the patient survival, 50 matched LT patients out of these patients were analyzed retrospectively. Furthermore, causes of death in CLKT patients were investigated. RESULTS: Within a mean follow-up of 25.2 months (range 1-96 months), 7 CLKT patients had died (mortality: 36.8%). There were 4 (21.1%) that died in hospital within 1 month, and 3 late mortality cases (deceased after hospital discharge). Actuarial survival was 73.7% at 1 year, 59.5% at 3 years, and 59.5% at 5 years. Cumulative patient survival was significantly worse among CLKT patients compared with LT patients. After excluding patients who died during the first month in the 2 groups, cumulative patient survivals were comparable between the 2 groups. The survival rate in CLKT patients was 87.5% at 1 year, 70.7% at 3 years, and 70.7% at 5 years. CONCLUSIONS: CLKT has relatively high hospital mortality as compared to LT. Beyond the hospital discharge, however, the long-term survival does not differ from LT.

RESUMEN

The nu-support vector regression (nu-SVR) was used to construct the calibration model between soluble solids content (SSC) of apples and acousto-optic tunable filter near-infrared (AOTF-NIR) spectra. The performance of nu-SVR was compared with the partial least square regression (PLSR) and the back-propagation artificial neural networks (BP-ANN). The influence of SVR parameters on the predictive ability of model was investigated. The results indicated that the parameter nu had a rather wide optimal area (between 0.35 and 1 for the apple data). Therefore, we could determine the value of nu beforehand and focus on the selection of other SVR parameters. For analyzing SSC of apple, nu-SVR was superior to PLSR and BP-ANN, especially in the case of fewer samples and treating the noise polluted spectra. Proper spectra pretreatment methods, such as scaling, mean center, standard normal variate (SNV) and the wavelength selection methods (stepwise multiple linear regression and genetic algorithm with PLS as its objective function), could improve the quality of nu-SVR model greatly.

RESUMEN

Discrete wavelet transform was used to eliminate the noise in the charge-coupled device near-infrared (CCD-NIR) spectra of apple. The influence of three parameters (wavelet function, decomposition level, and threshold) on the predictive ability of the calibration model was investigated. The result showed that the db, sym, and bior wavelet families performed well, while the coif, dmey, and haar wavelets were not able to denoise effectively. The best decomposition level was 2. The threshold selection rules of the default, Birge-Massart, and Penalty had good denoising results, while SURE, Sqtwolog, Heuristic SURE, and Minimax set all detailed coefficients to zero due to their high threshold values. The best denoising result was obtained with the combination of the bior3.3 wavelet function, two levels of decomposition, default threshold selection rule, and the soft thresholding method. The optimal model of soluble solids content was constructed. The relative standard deviation of prediction decreased from 7.79 to 5.82% after wavelet denoising.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of the specific murine anti-human CD(3) T lymphocyte monoclonal antibody (CD(3) MoAb) for severe aplastic anemia (SAA). METHODS: 13 SAA patients were chosen with a medium age of 22 years, including 4 untreated patients and 9 nonresponding to previous management. They were treated with 5 mg of CD(3) MoAb per day for a total 10 days. RESULTS: The response rate was 11/13, including 2 cured and 2 remission cases during a follow up of 3 to 15 months. As compared with the pretreatment condition the proliferation of bone marrow in 8 cases become better; the leukocytes, granulocytes, hemoglobin and platelets of peripheral blood increased 1.59 x 10(9)/L, 0.72 x 10(9)/L, 40 g/L and 47 x 10(9)/L respectively (P < 0.01, respectively); the ratio of CD(4)/CD(8) of T cell subsets increased from 1.12 to 1.42 while the expression of HLA-DR antigen decreased from 29.2 to 15.2 (P < 0.01, respectively); TNF alpha, IFN gamma and IL-2 secreted by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNCs) decreased obviously from 267, 784 and 92 to 152, 570 and 51 U/ml on the average respectively (P < 0.01, respectively). The main side effects were fever in all the patients and shortness of breath in 4 cases, but none died during the therapy. CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to other kinds of common immune suppressor, CD(3) MoAb showed better response and probably higher efficacy and safety for SAA. It is necessary to have more cases and to follow up longer to estimate its long term effect and side effects.
